Tradition holds that King Alfonso I 'The Catholic' constructed this building on February 21, 746, and excavations conducted during the hotel's refurbishment seem to confirm this. A monastery, run by the Order of San Benito until 1835, once stood on this site. Two rooms display pottery and other archaeological remains discovered during renovations, testaments to this rich history.
