About Skotel Alpine Resort
Skotel Alpine Resort is New Zealand's highest hotel and is located in the heart of the North Island within the Tongariro National Park.
The hotel, offers guests a variety of room types, from backpacker students rooms, to view rooms of the Park and the volcanic mountain peaks of Ngauruhoe, Tongariro and Ruapehu.
Skotel Alpine Resort is located in Whakapapa Village at the foot of Mount Ruapehu. Conveniently located near Whakapapa skifield during the ski season (June to October), within 1km of Tongariro National Park Whakapapa Visitor Centre and at the entrance to the Taranaki Falls Trail walk. The Mount Ruapehu ski area is a 6km drive up the mountain from the Village.
Skotel Alpine Resort is a 3 hour drive from Hamilton Airport, 4.5 hours from the Auckland and Wellington Airports.
The hotel is the ideal base for exploring the UNESCO world heritage parks - and the many hiking and biking trails in the area. From the hotel you can walk to Taranaki Falls, Tawhai Falls, Tama Lakes and for those up for a day trail walk, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.
After an exciting day hiking, biking, skiing (Jun-Oct) or sight-seeing guests can enjoy a refreshing sauna, a relaxing spa, or unwind over a drink or a meal at the Skotel Restaurant and Bar.
