The local area was once an agricultural centre but these activities have now died down. Many of the buildings still display evidence of the area's agricultural past. The hotel is, in fact, just a few kilometres away from the island of Ortygia and the historic centre of Syracuse, with its striking Greek theatre. The hotel is around a 5-minute walk from local public transport links and approximately a 15-minute drive from the railway and bus stations. The beach at Fanusa and coast at Plemmirio are around a 25- and 15-minute walk from the establishment respectively. The Archaeological Park and the Plemmirio protected marine area are around 5 km and 1. 5 km away from the hotel. Catania Airport is approximately 60 km away. The hotel, which was built in 2009, is the result of a masterly and accurate restoration of an ancient complex of buildings. The period of its original construction dates back to the end of the 19th century, when, for agricultural purposes, it was the lodging for landowners and farmers who worked in the surrounding area.
