About Chateau de Mazan, BW Premier Collection Hotel, Maz
This elegant 18th-century building welcomes you to a sumptuous setting combining history, charm, gastronomy, and comfort. Built circa 1715 during France's Regency period, the property has a rich history connected to the Marquis de Sade, whose family resided here. Although he primarily lived in Paris, the Marquis organized France's first theatre festival at Château de Mazan in 1772. Following the revolution, during which the château was damaged, it remained in the Sade family until 1850. It later served as a private residence, a religious school, and finally a retirement home until 1999. Transformed into a hotel in 2001, the Elegant Property Collection acquired the château in 2019, undertaking extensive renovations. Now reopened, Château de Mazan, BW Premier Collection, offers an authentic historical experience in the heart of Provence. The property features 31 rooms across the main building and a neighboring 17th-century house. The 2019/2020 renovation restored the décor to its Louis XV origins with a contemporary Provençal touch, emphasizing historical respect, elegance, and refinement. The gastronomic restaurant, La Salle à Manger (Cas), was awarded a Michelin star in 2021.
